The wrecking balls tore down Washington Square the past month relocating the Dubliner and the Sportsman and with new venues opening I had to go check them out. I started with the Dubliner Irish Bar on Sukhumvit 33 hoping for the cheap Premiership beer promotions from the previous venue. Promotions not up and running yet but will be next week. Not a great loss. Draught pints of Chang at 100 baht and Heineken 150 baht. Cocktails 155 baht for the lady. No Bushmills. We were there for the Manchester Derby but had the luck of an Irish band playing. Men in suits jigged too fast for my lens. The clientele on the night was more polished than expected, no scruffy or as they say in Donegal “Very Protestant Looking” but no doubt very Irish. The new Dubliner Irish Bar venue is less rustic and more modern. Similar layout with bar and band downstairs and a pool table on the upstairs. Three big screens for watching the sports. The outside seating is a nice new addition and at the time was packed full. The location is also more convenient found on the small soi beside the Robin Hood bar (not the main Sukhumvit 33 Road). Just a quick stroll from Phrom Phong Skytrain Station.
The Old Dubliner Bar on Sukhumvit Road
I have fond memories of the old Dubliner since first visiting in 2002. Fanfan’s first Guinness. A Christmas or two. Lets hope the Dubliner Sukhumvit 33 can live up to the former.
