Bangkok’s Cute Cafe Culture

Fanfan “I feel like I’m in a Doll’s House..” Me “and do you like it?” Fanfan “Yes”. Some few words to sum up our experience at Mr Jones Orphanage. It felt like we were in a doll’s house and yes Fanfan liked it. To add more Fanfan “I’m Full” Me “You Didn’t Come Here for Cake Did You?” Fanfan “…….”. This was obvious to me. We did not go to Mr Jones Orphanage for cake. In fact the last thing we needed was cake.Β At the time we had only finished stuffing our faces with Korean Bulgogi, Japanese Sushi and Shaved Ice Desserts. Needless to say being cute and Asian Fanfan couldn’t resist the stuffed toys, adorable decor and cupcakes of Mr Jones Orphanage. I was there for Cookie Monster buns and red sponge.

Bangkok’s Cute Cafe Culture

Themed as a toy work shop, plushed with teddies and toys and set under a timepiece roof. In the West 5 year olds would love Mr Jones Orphanage. But this is Bangkok where they’d first have to fight past cutesy, big eyed Asian girls and the squashed and awkward Farang stragglers. I feel like a giant in Fanfan’s doll house sat straight staring eye level into the roof light. Surprisingly happy under the enchantment of ‘Earth Angel’ and ‘Back to the Future’ prom tunes. The couple beside heart warming both 20 something year old guys sat eye to eye while sipping on a tiny tea set. Adorable.

Exceedingly Good Cake?

If I want tasty cake I go to ‘After You Dessert Cafe’, for the pretentious tea shop experience maybe Twinings Tea Boutique but for a super cute doll house experience I go to Mr Jones Orphanage. The cake’s good but as Fanfan admitted it’s not why we were there. We share 2 cakes I eat both. Ferrero Rocher cake and that red sponge I was seduced by earlier. Each served with a fresh flower next to it. Cute. For 260 Baht the prices aren’t so bad. Normal prices but with added value of cuteness.
